The speedi sleeve (wear sleeve) is a quick shaft repair sleeve.
These metal sleeves are simply pushed onto the damaged rotating shaft and provide the seal with a perfect sliding surface .
Speedi sleeves have a thin wall (0.28 mm (0.011 in.) and are simply pushed into place over the worn area, providing an optimized counterface surface for radial shaft seals. The very thin walls of the sleeves do not require a changing the size of the seal .
There is no need to dismantle or machine the shaft and costly downtime is kept to a minimum. Since you can use the same size seal as the original, there is no need to search for other seals or keep a stock of different sizes. No special equipment is required as the installation tool comes with the sleeve. A hammer and a pair of pliers are all you need for installation .
The contact surface is wear-resistant and machined to minimize its effects.
The flange can most often be left intact, but in applications where it will interfere with other system components, it will need to be removed, so as not to cause frictional heat and wear debris. It must also be removed in applications where it could reduce the supply of lubricant to the seal. This would reduce the cooling effect of the lubricant, resulting in increased temperatures under the foils and premature aging of the sealing material.
If the flange needs to be removed, it must be cut from the external side, where there is already an incision which facilitates the operation before installation. It can then be twisted and lifted after installation and grasped using a pair of needle-nose pliers.
